Joshua 6:20 “So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.”
When the people were walking around Jericho, they were commanded to be silent. Maybe the purpose of this was to give the people time to think about the miracles He had performed for them, everything from victory in battle to their shoes never wearing out.
Psalm 31:23 “O love the Lord, all ye his saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.”
The Spartans were taught from a very young age to fight, but they avoided them if possible. The entire Greek army went to fight the Persian army. They were outnumbered 5 to 1. It was the most intimidating army the world had ever known up to that point. Alexander the Great’s army started to get discouraged. Their enemy had elephants!
Alexander got on his horse and paraded before them saying, ‘Do you know who you are? You are Greeks, soldiers!’ History says the Persians saw the ‘bloodlust’ in the Greek’s eyes. Of course, they couldn’t really see the opposing side’s eyes. Instead, they heard a shout and knew the Greeks wouldn’t give up. The Persians were afraid and ran and the Greeks chased them!
Child of the Most High God, do you know Who You Are?! You serve the Lord, the King of glory. You are FREE! You have a reason to shout!
When hell says, ‘You don’t matter. You can’t possibly win.’ Reply back, ‘NO!’ Because of Who you belong to! Because of Whose you are! You have a reason to SHOUT!
The world will tell you, ‘What’s all this shouting about? Why do you have to be so loud? It’s just not proper, not civilized. Turn down the music. What is all this clapping about?’
Psalm 47:1 “O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.”
When the Cubs won 6-3, there is a lot of shouting going on. The world shouts over games and celebrities. People will stand in line for Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber tickets. Neither one of them ever cared about your bills. Neither of them even know your name.
Isaiah 5:20 “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
Why is it wrong to shout, ‘Jesus!’?
We have a reason to shout! Jesus gives us hope and love and forgiveness and life. No one deserves it, but Jesus gave freely. He wanted to give. He still wants to!
We make a joyful noise to the Lord because we’ve seen His glory. We’ve seen the changes in our own lives. We’ve been a part of His miracles.
You may have known pain. The pain may not be your fault. You may have made some really bad choices. You may have regrets. But, God sees something He can use, something He can change.
God reached into nothing, pulled out something, and hung it nowhere when He created the universe. When we stand before God with nothing, that’s when He does His best work! When you come before God with just you, all the mess and all the mistakes, He will do a great work in your life.
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
The world isn’t looking for a tidy, proper, in order faith. It’s looking for something real, loud, even crazy. It is not fitting in and being quiet that will bring revival. It’s about being excited about our God and all He has done!
There are two kinds of shouts.
The first kind is that shout of praise and celebration, that says, ‘I’m sold out! First I seek Him!’
The second kind is a battle cry shout. This kind is loud and aggressive. We do spiritual battle and we get loud. We need to let that ‘bloodlust’ get into our prayers! ‘Attack!’ We need to take back and take over!
How can you be ashamed of what God has done for you?!
Why were women so fervent in intercessory prayer? It’s because God put enmity between the woman and Satan.
God still calls men to lead in battle, in prayer. Get a shout in your lifestyle! Let your life shout that you won’t compromise, give in, or sell out. Stay until that final trumpet blows! Be in this for your family, your friends, and all those souls who are desperate for hope. The greatest inheritance or legacy a man can give his children is his relationship with God.
Let your life shout that you are a Christian!
Isaiah 61:1-3 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”
If you feel like your life is a burnt up pile of ashes, Jesus wants to give you beauty. If you are in depression (the spirit of heaviness), Jesus wants to give you a garment of praise. He wants to give you a reason to shout. He wants to take away your garbage and trash and mistakes and every bad choice you’ve ever made and He will give you hope and joy and peace and forgiveness—no more regrets.
Isaiah 24:13-15 “When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the Lord, they shall cry aloud from the sea. Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the fires, even the name of the Lord God of Israel in the isles of the sea.”
You have a reason to shout!
John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Jesus offers not just life, but abundant life, glorious, joyful life. Live a life that shouts of His glory and wonder!
